The City of McComb has a long
history of fire service. McComb was incorporated in 1872 and
was served by an all volunteer fire department. In 1904,
fire destroyed 2/3 of the downtown district, including city
hall. The fire department was restructured in 1915 and
became a paid department. In 1928, a new station was built
to house updated equipment. The McComb City Enterprise
reported "The McComb Fire Department is a very efficient
organization, and it does effective work in fighting fires.
McComb people are well protected against the hazard of
fire." A short time after the new station opened, the worst
tragedy to ever strike the fire department took the lives of
three firefighters.
The list of major fires is long
in the history of McComb. We still feel today that McComb is
well protected against the hazard of fire.
The McComb Fire Department is
proud to give you a glimpse into our lives through this
site.
We employ 37 full time
firefighters who work in 24 hour shifts. We have 3 stations
housing a ladder truck, several pumpers, a tanker, and a
rescue truck. We are striving to gain more equipment as the
need arises.
As we go into the 21st century,
the fire department is changing with the times. A new
Ferrara 75 foot aerial has been purchased and will be housed
in the new state of the art fire station on Parklane Road.
Our firefighters are striving to be the highest trained
department in the state. A hazardous Materials team has been
established in cooperation with Pike County. The HazMat team
will respond within Pike County to control dangerous
situations involving chemical spills. This increases the
safety of our citizens through better equipment and
training. The fire department is also in the process of
developing a dive rescue team to assist in rescue operations
throughout the county's waterways.
Due to the world situation and
the threat of terrorism, the City of McComb Fire Department
has been selected by the state to head one of the ten
regional response teams throughout the state. In cooperation
with Natchez and Brookhaven, the Regional Response Team has
acquired state of the art equipment and training to combat
the threat of terrorism including chemical, biological and
radiological threats.

please go to the memorial page and honor the men who died in the fire of
1928.They are the only firefighters to have given their very
existence trying to help the citizens of McComb. Let's never
forget what they gave for our city.
